Lumenair the public bike pump | 2017
WHAT Lumenair is a public bike pump with an integrated light to improve the experience when inflating your tires during the darker hours of the day.
WHY Light pollution has become a global issue in cities due to in-effective street lights. Not only is it waste of energy but it disrupts wildlife and human sleep, among other. The main problem is that there is too much light where it is not wanted/needed. In an observation I found that the public bike pumps in the Malmö region is most often badly lit making it difficult to see when inflating your tires during the darker hours of the day.
HOW By directing the light where it actually is needed – in this case by the tires – you avoid polluting the surrounding environment with light. The light source is placed on the upper part pointing down behind frosted glass, this to be sure of no case of glare.
